Idos Motorsport Recap After a Media Break

During our long media break, the Idos Motorsport team has been flat out working on new plans and working on the series that we are focused on currently.

So. Let's recap what's been going on and let's give you a bit o an idea what 2018 holds for the team.

GPVWC ITC

Stein, Elise and Ed have all been focused with other personal events recently so practicing for ITC wasn't the top priority for the trio. However, Stein and Ed took to the track at Le Mans and really showed that the French circuit is one of Idos' luck tracks. With a P12, P14, Reverse Grid Pole AND P7 from Stein. Elise was ecstatic as the Dutch driver crossed the line at the end of Race 3 to award the team some VERY valuable points whilst almost managing to hold off Title leader Rudy van Buren. Ed on the other hand had a rather less successful weekend with incidents in Races One and Three and just poor luck in Race Two.

We then had a week's break until we flew down under to Adelaide for the next round of the season. Ed, with last minute commitments, had to stand down from his home event so team boss Elise Skinner took over the #22 for the event. Opting to start from the pits in Race 1, she avoided the turn one carnage that ensued only to then be rejoined into by an unaware Matt Richards. This was sorted out post race and each driver laughed off the incident. Race Two was a grid start and then an accident on the first lap as Eric Stanford reversed into Elise as she passed him meaning she was gifted large damage of which ended up in a roll out of the circuit and into the grandstands. Race Three was a DNF as well with another accident caused by Elise herself.

Stein, however, had a rather successful qualifying putting him up front for the first race. This couldn't be converted as the rolling car of Chris Butcher hit the side of Stein of whom got severe damage which later resulted in a spin. Dropping him out of the points. Race Two was of a similarly unsuccessful nature with stein finishing just outside the points as reverse grid pole went to Philip Morby. Race Three was the gem however. Stein managing to hold his own in front of some very skilled drivers and then capitalising on the mistakes of others, promoting him up to P14 by the end of the race gifting the team a couple more valuable points. In turn, closing the gap to the next team in the Team's Standings.

All eyes are on the Portland round this week.

SR.C VLMS

The second round of the Virtual Le Mans Series got underway at Fuji with the Idos Motorsport Oreca LMP2 starting P18 in Class. With a Drive Through Penalty to serve from a Code 80 infringement at Indianapolis, Thomas Hinss had it all to do if the team were to score some valuable, whilst needed, championship points.

First stint and Hinss drove the wheels off the car in the wet conditions to charge up the field as the rest of the field served their penalties. With Elise being away for the event, the team has very little help. Which in pure honesty wasn't even needed as after serving the penalty Hinss kept the car clean and consistent as rookie drivers faltered around him. Meaning he could climb his way up ti P6 in class by the time he handed the car over to the Swiss of David Jundt. David then set about bringing he car through the rest of the race unscathed. Even though a small amount of time was lost during his stint he had brought the car closer to P5, of whom he passed, before Marc Veit, our resident German from Deltec, hopped into the car for the final stints to bring her home. After numerous bits of contact with GT cars who didn't seem to see Marc coming through, which is surprising considering the car is Bright Yellow and White, he managed to bring the car home P6 after losing out late in the race due to the traffic.

All in all a good VLMS weekend for the team with 8 points brought home from the Japanese circuit. All eyes now focused on Round Three at Istanbul Park, Turkey.

Formula Sim Racing

After a few races away the Idos team returned to play at the Circuit of the Americas with new recruit Jordy Zwiers, a young driver from SimHQ Motorsports' VLMS Division.

With a small grid for this round featuring a dozen cars, Jordy qualiied the car P on the grid. Allowing the team to have a clear idea on what the strategy would entail throughout the race. This also was aided by the Race Director pardoning us for a small mistake before the formation lap which meant our strategy was secure.

Not much to say about the race really. Jordy ran the race as best as he could and he managed to almost jump a couple of guys on pit strategy alone. However, the race pace just lacked slightly which we all agreed on but nonetheless we all were over the moon at our first top 10 finish in FSR on the lead lap to race winner Sergi Heras no matter how small the grid.

We won't be returning for the final race of the year at Brazil. Although, Elise WILL be in the commentary booth for the finale to take you through the final race. So keep those eyes peeled!

What the future now holds for the Idos Motorsport Team

After a recent poll on twitter in which we asked you to help us guide us towards a series. Results were in favour of GPVWC Formula Challenge and iRacing.

So.... That's what we did!

We've recently shown our interest in the GPVWC Formuls Challenge series in which is the first step of the career ladder. With two drivers already showing interest in our programme we hope to have more step up to the bar.

In terms of iRacing? Well. With the Undiecar Series (a series using only free iRacing Content) we plan to run a team in there for Season 4 as that is when the inaugural Teams Championship will take place. We are also looking towards the Oceanic Endurance Championship. However, this is something we still need to find some more info about but we will most likely enter the series at a later date.

2018 will be our 5th year of action in SimRacing. So to commemorate that we shall run a special livery of which we hope we can run across every single series we run. However it will most certainly be run for GPVWC Formula Challenge 2018.

For FSR? it's still a VERY big possibility. It would most likely be ACE due to the driver we have interested so far. However anything is possible still as 2018 is still a month away.
